The Transport Department (TD) has issued its first official Taxi Fleet License to SynCab Taxi (mixed fleet), valid for five years, with operations set to begin on Monday.

The TD approved the fleet’s livery design and markings, requiring all fleet taxis to display designated plates on the front and rear of vehicles, along with a certificate on the windscreen.

All fleet taxis will offer online hailing services. For pre-arranged trips, operators may customize fares by either charging a booking fee in addition to the metered fare or setting an agreed lump sum upfront.

Passengers must consent to the chosen pricing method in advance.

The fares of fleet taxis may vary for pre-arranged journeys depending on the circumstances at the time of booking and the types of taxis requested. For example, higher fares may be charged during peak hours or when the passenger requests a premium cab.

However, TD emphasized that for street-hailing trips, fleet taxis must charge according to the same fare schedule as general taxis.

Additionally, about 80 taxi stopping places were set up across 13 locations, such as the airport, specific boundary control points, the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link, some Airport Express stations, the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, and the Hong Kong Disneyland.

Information plates will be installed at these locations, the TD said.
